INTERNATIONAL POLICIES AND REGULATIONS

1.      UK POLICY

Using a quad bike off-road

You do not need a driving licence to ride a quad bike off-road.

You do not have to tax and register your quad bike if you’re only going to use it off-road. However, there is an ‘off-road register’ where you can record the details of your off-road quad bike, which could help the police find it if it’s stolen or broken.

Categorization of Quad Bike as ATV

Technically, an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) is any motorised vehicle which is designed to travel on four low- pressure tyres on unpaved surfaces, has a seat designed to be straddled by the operator and handlebars for steering control.

Do I Need A Driving Licence to Ride A Quad or ATV?

You do not need any category of driving license if you are riding on privately owned land. But you need a full UK car driving licence (category B or B1) to ride a quad on the road.

2.      AUSTRALIA’S CURRENT LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK

 Work Health and Safety Legislation

Obligations under model work health and safety laws State and territory governments are responsible for the regulation of workplace health and safety (WHS) in their jurisdiction. In 2011 Safe Work Australia developed a single set of WHS laws to be implemented across Australia in terms of Transport and Ride. These are known as ‘model’ laws. For the model WHS laws to become legally binding, the Commonwealth, states and territories must separately implement them as their own laws regardless of the amendments classified.

3.      IN INDIA

ATVs have many purposes such as joy riding, adventure sports, convenience farming, and border security. Although ATV trails are not commonplace, many riders use them on hilly tracks, sand dunes, forest areas, and other terrain that is not accessible with street vehicles. ATVs can already be found at many hill stations, beach resorts, and adventure clubs throughout the country.

ATVs cannot be registered with any Regional Transport Office in the country. India does not require riders to obtain a driving license for operating all-terrain vehicles.
